I did not decide the above title in hurry with any assumption. After deep observations around and among engineers I got to know that “What I want to
become?” is frequently asked question
among engineers. Most engineering students in India, I am not certain about
other nations though, are confused about their future and career. They are
engineers for name sake.
By above statement I did not intend to criticize anyone or in particular any engineering student in India or abroad. All I am saying is that there are lot of baffles among engineering students. You visit any engineering college over the year and interact through 2nd and 3rd year students. Through the talk you will get a lucid insinuate that they are muffled about their future. They themselves don't know what they want to be.
I have a close friend from engineering background. She is good. By this I mean she is strong in technical knowledge. Let me clarify she is currently (2015) in her final year of B-Tech from Electronics & Communication background. Despite of exhibiting good technicality, her future plan vacillates from one profession to another. It never matches with engineering background though. she wants to be everything around and put her hand in every profession possible. Whether its medicine, business, journalism, managing, dancing, singing or many more. She clearly radiates her interest in any profession other than just being an engineer. She came in this line probably because an engineer makes lot of money-as she had an assumption initially.
This is not confined to her. Almost every nine engineering student out of ten are twined around this question-which sounds simple but is difficult to answer. The frequency of asking this vary question-what I want to become?- increases with final year approaching nearby. No matter how good the student might be at least once in his engineering life he\she definitely inquires about it within himself/herself and may be after engineering life too.
Such a trend in almost every engineering colleges in Nation points to a big but vital question which we might not have noticed so far. The question is what makes students choose B-Tech or BE as their professional course? Is it that students want time to plan for their future and taking up engineering in the meanwhile gives them abundant time period of 4 long years to think and take decision properly? Is B-Tech a respite period for decision making? or do students take BE under any pressure? Pressure could be anything that tempts a student to choose wrong profession.
What can help students decide proper course for themselves without any pressure? what do you think? Leave your opinion in the comment box below.
Kindly give your opinion and be a part of awareness and encouragement program for students and help them choose right course.
